he iFi iDSD Phantom is a reference-class DAC, ultra-resolution streamer, and headphone amp built into a single home audio centerpiece. Built around four interleaved Burr-Brown DSD1793 DACs and a custom-coded field-programmable gate array (FPGA), the Phantom's DSD2048 Remastering technology natively decodes signals up to DSD2048 resolution, bringing playback closer to the sound of a professionally remastered recording. K2 and K2HD restoration technologies
Licensed from JVCKENWOOD, K2 and K2HD restoration technologies recover harmonic detail lost when music is digitally compressed, bringing playback closer to the sound of the original master recording. K2 handles all supported PCM audio, while K2HD goes a step further on PCM audio up to 176.4kHz, extending high-frequency detail beyond what standard digital audio typically preserves. The iDSD Phantom handles the switch between the two automatically: feed it a PCM signal above 176.4kHz, and it shifts to standard K2 mode, then resumes K2HD mode once the sample rate drops back to 176.4kHz or below. K2HD only works with PCM files; native DSD playback bypasses this processing entirely.
Three voices in one amplifier
Most headphone amps give you one sound; the iDSD Phantom gives you three. Flip to Solid-State mode for fast, precise transients courtesy of discrete JFETs, or switch to Tube mode and let a pair of hand-matched, new-old-stock GE5670 valves take over for smoother, more relaxed listening. For the utmost tube character, Tube+ mode adds a 6dB boost to 2nd-order harmonics, imbuing the sound with even richer coloration. The Phantom connects to nearly every major streaming service, so there's no need to juggle separate hardware for separate platforms. Qobuz Connect, Tidal Connect, Spotify Connect, Roon Ready, and AirPlay 2 are all built in, alongside support for locally stored files. While connecting via Ethernet offers the most stable streaming experience, setup and day-to-day control via iFi's Nexis app can pair the Phantom to your home Wi-Fi network over Bluetooth, giving you a central place to manage connected storage, streamer settings, and firmware updates as they roll out. Wired sources also receive a full suite of digital inputs and network isolation to keep your source clean and your setup free from electrical noise.
